Local businesses and organisations in Wilmslow are being offered free secure cycle parking as part of a new scheme designed to boost footfall and encourage more people to travel by bike.
Funded by Wilmslow Town Council, the initiative is part of the âTake a StandâÂŽ programme, run by cycling charity Life Cycle, which focuses on improving everyday cycling infrastructure.
Through the scheme, Life Cycle will supply, deliver and install up to 4 âSheffieldâ cycle stands per site at no cost to participating businesses / organisations. The aim is simple â make it easier for people to cycle into town and access local venues.
The scheme is expected to benefit a wide range of places across Wilmslow, including shops, pubs, churches and community organisations, helping more residents choose active travel while supporting local businesses.
Wilmslow Town Mayor Councillor Sally Harrison said:
âWe are delighted to bring the âTake a Standâ initiative to Wilmslow, encouraging more people to cycle to local businesses and organisations.
Providing secure bike parking makes it easier for residents to choose active, sustainable travel while also helping increase footfall for venues open to the Wilmslow community.â
She also thanked Councillor Elaine Evans, who researched and proposed the initiative, as well as partners working to deliver the project locally.
The move is part of wider efforts to make cycling a more practical and attractive option in the town.
