Wilmslow Town Council has renewed its support for Citizens Advice, helping residents continue to access free, independent and confidential advice in the town.

Wilmslow Town Council has awarded £39,179 to Citizens Advice to help keep its local advice service running for another year.

The funding will allow residents to continue accessing free, independent and confidential support in Wilmslow, including drop-in sessions, face-to-face appointments, telephone advice and email support.

The service is available locally four days a week, giving residents help without needing to travel to Macclesfield for in-person appointments.

The town council has supported the Wilmslow advice service since September 2012, helping maintain access to guidance on issues such as money, debt, benefits, housing, employment, consumer problems and family matters.

A Monday morning drop-in service is held at Wilmslow United Reformed Church, while face-to-face appointments are available during the week at Oakenclough Family Hub, Wilmslow United Reformed Church and Wilmslow Parish Hall.

Will McKellar, chief officer of Citizens Advice Cheshire East, said the funding was essential to keeping the service available in the town.

He said all drop-in sessions were at capacity and every appointment was being filled, adding that the service would not be possible without the support of the town council.

Wilmslow Town Mayor, Councillor Sally Harrison, said the council was pleased to continue backing a service that provides valuable support to local residents.

She said the Citizens Advice team helps people navigate difficult situations by offering trusted, impartial advice and practical guidance.

The mayor also thanked advisers in Wilmslow for the dedication they show in supporting the community.

The continued funding comes at a time when many households are facing pressure from higher living costs, housing issues, debt concerns and uncertainty around benefits or employment.

For residents, having access to local advice can make it easier to seek help early, before problems become more serious.

Citizens Advice services are particularly important for people who may struggle to access online-only support or who need help understanding letters, forms, legal processes or financial options.

The Wilmslow service operates from several local venues.

At United Reformed Church Halls on Chapel Lane, a drop-in service is available on Mondays from 9.30am to 12.30pm. Face-to-face appointments are also available there on Wednesdays from 9.15am to 12.45pm.

Appointments at Wilmslow Parish Hall on Cliff Road are available on Thursdays from 10.30am to 12.45pm.

Further appointments are available at Oakenclough Family Hub on Colshaw Drive on Tuesdays from 9.15am to 12.45pm.

Residents who need to book a face-to-face appointment can call 01625 432847. The line is open Monday to Friday from 9.30am to 1pm.

Advice is also available by calling 0808 812 6186 or through the Citizens Advice email advice service.

The renewed grant means residents in Wilmslow will continue to have access to local, confidential advice at a time when demand remains high.
