Cheshire village cafe owner 'heartbroken' as business must close
'I had never expected the journey would end like this'

A heartbroken cafe owner in Alderley Edge has confirmed her popular business will close permanently at the end of July.
Nook & Cranny, based at The Shed on South Street, has become a familiar independent cafe in the village since opening in 2024.
Owner Anna Williams said the closure was not a decision she had chosen or wanted to make. She also made clear it was not due to poor sales, financial problems or a lack of customer support.
In a message to customers, Anna said: “This is the hardest post I have ever had to write. But, I have some difficult news that I need to share. Nook and Cranny will be closing its doors at the end of July.
“This is not a decision I have made, nor one I wanted to make.”
She added: “To be honest, I am completely heartbroken. This closure is not the result of poor sales, financial difficulties or lack of support from our customers. In fact, quite the opposite.
“The reality is that the decision about who would occupy our premises in the future was, in the end, taken out of my hands.”
Nook & Cranny is an independent, family-run and dog-friendly cafe known locally for its coffee, cakes, pastries, soups and sandwiches. It also sells gifts and homeware and has indoor and outdoor seating.
Anna said she had put her “heart and soul” into the business and had not expected the journey to end this way.
She said: “While I am devastated about this outcome, no one can ever take away the amazing community we have built here. I am incredibly proud of what we have created, and will always look back on this journey fondly.”
The announcement has been met with sadness from customers, many of whom have supported the cafe since it opened.
Nook & Cranny is expected to remain open until the end of July, giving regulars and visitors a final chance to call in before the doors close.
Anna thanked customers for their support and said seeing people in the cafe during its final weeks would mean a great deal.
