Alderley Edge Parish Council is opposing plans by a village bar to stay open until 2.30am at weekends, with concerns raised over noise, parking and the impact on nearby residents.

Plans to extend the opening hours of a bar in Alderley Edge are set to be decided by Cheshire East Council after attracting objections from the parish council and local residents.

Latch, on London Road, has applied to vary its premises licence to remain open until 2.30am on Fridays and Saturdays, instead of its current closing time of 11.30pm Monday to Saturday and 10.30pm on Sundays.

The application also seeks permission to serve alcohol and provide live and recorded music indoors until 2am on Fridays and Saturdays, and until midnight from Sunday to Thursday.

The proposals are due to be considered by Cheshire East Council’s licensing sub-committee.

Alderley Edge Parish Council has formally objected to the application, saying it represents a significant departure from the council’s licensing hours guidance for the village.

In its submission, the parish council said there was insufficient justification for the extended hours and raised concerns about noise, the use of the venue’s outdoor seating area and the potential impact on nearby residents and pedestrians.

The council has also called for stricter conditions to prevent noise escaping from the premises and to prohibit live entertainment outdoors.

A nearby resident has lodged a separate objection, claiming the extended hours would have a detrimental impact on local amenity and undermine the licensing objectives.

Applicant Edward Odudu, of Global Cultural Events Ltd, said the business wants to trade until 2am on Fridays and Saturdays, in line with other venues located opposite the premises and on evenings before bank holidays.

The application includes several measures intended to reduce noise and disturbance.

These include keeping all live and recorded music indoors, ensuring doors and windows remain closed after 9pm except for access, implementing a noise management plan and monitoring music levels to prevent sound escaping from the building.

The licensing sub-committee will decide whether to approve the variation after considering the application alongside the objections received.

The meeting is scheduled to take place at Macclesfield Town Hall.
