Grassroots football teams in Cheshire West are being invited to apply for funding through a new community scheme.

Redrow has launched its Game On Community Fund to support not-for-profit local football teams, clubs and initiatives.

The fund is worth £5,000 in total and will be split into 10 donations of £500.

It is open to grassroots football teams in areas including Cheshire East, Cheshire West, Daresbury, Halewood, Widnes and Woodford.

Youth teams, men’s and women’s teams, wheelchair football groups and walking football teams are among those able to apply.

The housebuilder says the fund has been inspired by the World Cup and is intended to support health, wellbeing, teamwork and community involvement through football.

For many grassroots clubs, even relatively small grants can make a practical difference.

Money may help with costs such as kit, training equipment, matchday essentials, pitch hire, coaching resources or other items that help teams keep operating.

Grassroots football relies heavily on volunteers, parents, coaches and local supporters.

Clubs often have to cover rising costs while trying to keep fees affordable for players and families.

That can be especially difficult for youth teams and community groups that want to make football accessible to people from different backgrounds and income levels.

The new fund is designed to provide direct support to local teams and football initiatives that serve their communities.

It comes at a time when interest in football is high, with the World Cup once again putting the sport in the national spotlight.

For Cheshire West clubs, the funding could help ease some of the pressure linked to running teams across the season.

Even basic costs can add up quickly, from footballs and bibs to insurance, pitch bookings, referee fees, first-aid supplies and travel.

The fund may also support teams working to widen participation, including women and girls’ football, disability football, walking football and other inclusive football projects.

Applications are open for the duration of the World Cup.

Teams must complete an application form and return it by midnight on Sunday 19 July 2026.

Redrow says the scheme is open to not-for-profit local teams, clubs and football initiatives that support their communities.

The fund is separate from council-run grants and is being offered by Redrow as a voluntary community fund.

For local teams, the key step is to set out clearly what the funding would be used for and how it would benefit players or the wider community.

Successful applicants will receive one of the £500 donations.
