Salary details must be included in job advertisements or provided in writing before interviews under new UK government proposals aimed at reducing pay discrimination. The Cabinet Office says the draft rules would require employers to disclose starting salaries or salary ranges for new positions, applying across England, Wales and Scotland .

Officials are consulting on whether ads must show exact figures or if a benchmark rate or range would be sufficient . For jobs without public advertisements, employers will be obliged to give candidates the relevant pay information in writing before any interview takes place .

Large employers in Europe with more than 100 employees will face specific disclosure requirements for new roles . The government argues the move would help jobseekers make better decisions and could reduce pay discrimination claims .

Precise terms will be set out in legislation following an industry consultation expected to conclude in October . The UK has not yet implemented the EU Pay Transparency Directive, which requires member states to transpose pay transparency laws by June 2026, unlike Ireland which must comply by that date .

As of 2026, there is no current UK law mandating salary ranges in job adverts, making this a proposed change rather than an existing requirement .
