Council consults on one-way system for three roads in Lache, Chester
Cheshire West and Chester Council has published plans for a one-way system on Downsfield, Hawthorn and Poplar Roads in Lache, inviting objections by 30 July 2026.

Cheshire West and Chester Borough Council has published a draft traffic regulation order proposing a new one-way system for Downsfield Road, part of Hawthorn Road and Poplar Road in Lache, Chester.
The council states that the order is being made under sections 1 and 2 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 on safety grounds and to regulate the use of the highway.
Under the proposal, Downsfield Road would become one-way eastbound from Clivedon Road to Hawthorn Road.
Hawthorn Road would operate one-way in a south-westerly direction from its junction with Downsfield Road to its junction with Poplar Road.
Poplar Road would be one-way westbound from Hawthorn Road back to Clivedon Road, completing a one-way loop through the estate.
The draft order and associated plans are available to view on the council's website and at the HQ office on Nicholas Street in Chester.
Residents can request copies of the draft order by emailing highways@cheshirewestandchester.gov.uk or by calling 0300 123 7036.
The council's public notice advises that written representations may be made and that objections should clearly identify the title of the order.
Anyone wishing to object to the proposed changes must do so in writing by 30 July 2026, stating the grounds for their objection.
Objections and other representations can be submitted by post or via the contact details provided, and may be made available for public inspection as part of the statutory process.
The consultation forms part of the council's standard procedure for traffic regulation orders, which requires consideration of public comments before a final decision is taken.
The draft order text does not yet specify the date on which the one-way system would come into operation, referring only to a future commencement date to be inserted.
No separate statement has been published confirming whether the scheme is intended to be permanent or introduced on an experimental basis.
The council has indicated that further information will be provided once the consultation period has ended and responses have been reviewed.
Following the close of consultation, the council will decide whether to make the order as advertised, amend it in light of objections, or not proceed.
If approved, the one-way restrictions would be formally cited as the Cheshire West and Chester Borough Council (Downsfield Road, part of Hawthorn Road and Poplar Road, Lache, Chester) (One-Way) Order, with a commencement date set in the final sealed order.
Residents living on and around the affected roads are therefore being encouraged to inspect the draft documents and submit any comments before the 30 July 2026 deadline.
