ANPR cameras to be installed outside primary school in Ellesmere Port
CHESHIRE West and Chester Council will install ANPR cameras in Eddisbury Road ahead of the new school year.
By Chester Standard
Cheshire West and Chester Council will install automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) cameras on Eddisbury Road in Ellesmere Port to enforce a new school street trial outside a primary school ahead of the new term. The cameras will be positioned to monitor traffic and ensure only authorised vehicles enter the restricted zone during specific times.
The trial is scheduled to begin on 2 September and will operate only during term time on school days between 8:15am and 9:15am in the morning, and 2:30pm and 3:30pm in the afternoon. The measure aims to improve safety for pupils and reduce congestion near the school entrance by banning general car access during these peak periods.
The council confirmed the installation is a direct response to the need for safer school streets in the local area. Parents and residents will need to register their vehicles if they require access during the restricted hours, as the system will compare licence plates against a database of authorised vehicles.
Unauthorised vehicles detected by the cameras will be subject to enforcement action under the new trial rules.
