Microsoft cuts OneDrive support for older Windows 10 versions next month

22H2 has until 2028, or there's always Windows 11

Microsoft will end OneDrive sync support for older Windows 10 versions on August 15, 2026, affecting users on builds prior to version 22H2. The change applies to Windows 10 version 22H1 and all earlier iterations, including 21H2, 21H1, 20H2 and 2004.

After this date, devices on these older builds will receive no further updates, bug fixes or security patches for the OneDrive sync app. Microsoft states that while the service may not stop working immediately, future functionality is not guaranteed for users who do not upgrade.

The company has advised users to upgrade to Windows 10 version 22H2 or move directly to Windows 11 to maintain full support. Windows 10 version 22H2, the final release of Windows 10, will continue receiving OneDrive sync updates until October 10, 2028.

This date marks the final end of OneDrive sync support on the Windows 10 platform. Users on older versions who upgrade to 22H2 before August 15 will retain access to feature updates, bug fixes and security patches through the 2028 deadline.
