A medical student from Knutsford has been awarded the 2026 Knutsford Millennium Bursary, helping to fund a summer research placement in immunology and cancer research.
Remi Livesey, who is studying medicine at the University of Cambridge, received the £760 bursary, which is jointly organised by Knutsford Town Council and Knutsford Lions. The award will help cover accommodation costs while he undertakes hands-on research during the placement.
The Knutsford Millennium Bursary was established in 2000 to support students in higher education who live in Knutsford or Toft and have completed their second year of study. It is awarded annually to help recipients pursue educational, research or career development opportunities.
Accepting the award, Remi said he was grateful to both organisations for supporting his placement and described the opportunity to contribute to medical research as an important step towards a career combining clinical practice with scientific research.
Lydia Barclay, speaking on behalf of Knutsford Lions, said the judging panel had been impressed by the ambition, commitment and community spirit shown by this year’s applicants. She said Remi hopes to combine frontline medicine with research that could improve understanding and treatment of autoimmune diseases and cancer in the future.
The bursary is intended to help local students gain valuable experience that may not otherwise be financially accessible, while recognising academic achievement and commitment to the wider community.
Applications for the 2027 Knutsford Millennium Bursary are due to open in October 2026 and will close on 31 January 2027. Eligible students from Knutsford and Toft who have completed their second year of higher education will be invited to apply through the annual scheme.
