Crewe & Nantwich MP Connor Naismith has welcomed new Government measures designed to reduce business rates for eligible pubs, clubs and live music venues across England.
The announcement forms part of a wider package of support for the hospitality sector, with the Government confirming an additional 20% reduction in business rates bills for qualifying venues from April 2027. The measure is expected to benefit thousands of businesses, with ministers estimating the typical pub could save around £1,100 a year.
Responding to the announcement, Mr Naismith said the changes would provide welcome support for hospitality businesses serving communities across Crewe and Nantwich.
Pubs, social clubs and live music venues play an important role in many Cheshire towns and villages, providing local employment while supporting the evening economy and attracting visitors.
The Government said the new relief will build on existing support for the sector. Eligible venues are already receiving relief during the 2026/27 financial year, with the new 20% discount scheduled to take effect from April 2027. The discount will not apply to the largest live music venues, with further details expected in the Autumn Budget.
Business groups have broadly welcomed the announcement, although many have argued that further reforms, including wider changes to business rates and hospitality VAT, will be needed to address rising operating costs facing the sector.
The relief applies in England and will be administered through the business rates system. Further guidance on eligibility and implementation is expected before the changes come into effect in April 2027.
