A new outpatient facility has opened at Leighton Hospital in Crewe, providing a new home for Audiology and Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) services.
The two-storey building, located close to the hospital’s main entrance, offers more than 1,000 square metres of clinical space and has been designed to improve the experience for patients attending outpatient appointments.
The facility includes three audiology testing booths, nine consulting rooms, an ENT treatment room and a dedicated minor operations room, bringing a range of specialist services together in one purpose-built location.
The new building forms part of Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust’s wider programme of improvement works at Leighton Hospital. It was constructed to enable essential remediation work in the existing outpatient department following the identification of reinforced autoclaved aerated concrete (RAAC) within the roof structure.
As services move into the new facility, work can continue on upgrading the older outpatient department. The Trust has said this will also create a new treatment suite for a range of outpatient services and provide additional flexible clinical space that can be used if departments need to relocate temporarily in the future.
The investment comes as Leighton Hospital continues to modernise its estate while plans progress for a new hospital as part of the Government’s New Hospital Programme. Planning permission for the wider redevelopment of the site, including a replacement hospital, was approved by Cheshire East Council earlier this year.
Patients attending Audiology or ENT appointments are advised to check their appointment letters carefully and follow on-site signage to the new facility, which is located near the hospital’s main entrance.
