Aldi identifies Hartford, Handforth and West Widnes for potential new stores
Aldi has named Hartford, Handforth and West Widnes among the locations where it is looking to open new supermarkets as part of its ongoing expansion across the UK.
The retailer is seeking freehold, leasehold or long leasehold sites in prominent locations with good visibility and access. Identifying a location does not confirm that a new store will be built, as any proposal would be subject to finding a suitable site and obtaining planning permission.
Jonathan Neale, Managing Director of National Real Estate at Aldi UK, said: “We know how important it is for people to have access to affordable, high-quality food close to where they live, which is why we’re focused on identifying the communities that would benefit most from a new Aldi store.”
He added that new stores would create jobs while providing customers with access to Aldi’s range of products.
The announcement forms part of Aldi’s wider UK expansion programme. The supermarket said it plans to invest more than £370 million in new stores during the year as it works towards a long-term goal of operating 1,500 stores across the UK.
Hartford, Handforth and West Widnes are included on Aldi’s latest list of priority locations where it is actively seeking suitable sites. No planning applications have been submitted for stores in those locations, and no opening dates have been announced.
If suitable sites are secured, any future developments would be subject to the normal planning process before construction could begin.
