Green light for final phase of housing development on the site of former kennels

Cheshire East has given the go-ahead for eight homes on land at Birchwood House, off Birch Lane in Hough. The scheme is the final phase of development on the site of a former boarding kennels.
According to the source report, the application relates to the remaining parcel of land associated with the former kennels site. Three homes have already been built and occupied on one part of the land, while five more have already been constructed on another approved parcel.
The proposal had been due to go before councillors earlier in the summer, but it was withdrawn while officers waited for expert advice about a gas pipeline close to the site. Planning officers said the scheme was considered sustainably located, but still conflicted with the development plan overall.
The report also said Cheshire East does not have a five-year housing land supply, and that the development would help meet local housing need. A financial contribution of £303,743 towards three off-site affordable homes was also included in the application.
Hough Parish Council objected to the plans, saying the existing property has an agricultural tie and that the proposal would replace a single dwelling while far exceeding its footprint. Five residents also objected, according to the report.
