A new nursery providing 128 childcare places is due to open this September at Kings Moat Garden Village, expanding early years provision for one of Chester's fastest-growing communities.
The purpose-built nursery forms part of the new Kings Moat Community Primary School development on Wrexham Road (A483), which has been built to serve families moving into the expanding residential neighbourhood on the southern edge of the city.
Designed to accommodate babies and pre-school children, the nursery will provide a modern early years environment with dedicated indoor learning areas and secure outdoor play spaces. The facility has been created to support children's development through play while helping prepare them for the transition into primary education.
The opening comes as Kings Moat Garden Village continues to grow, with hundreds of new homes already occupied and further phases of housing under construction. As the population increases, demand for school and nursery places has also risen, prompting investment in new education facilities to support local families.
Operating alongside Kings Moat Community Primary School, the nursery is expected to provide a clear pathway from early years education into primary school, allowing children to become familiar with the setting before starting full-time education.
The development reflects wider efforts across Cheshire West and Chester to ensure education infrastructure keeps pace with housing growth. Local authorities have worked with developers and education providers to plan additional school and childcare capacity in areas experiencing significant population increases.
The nursery also opens at a time when demand for childcare continues to rise following the expansion of funded childcare support in England. Many working parents are seeking greater access to high-quality early years provision as government-funded childcare is rolled out to more eligible families.
Early years education plays a key role in supporting children's social, language and cognitive development, with research showing that access to quality childcare can help improve school readiness and long-term educational outcomes.
The new nursery is expected to welcome its first children when it opens in September, providing additional childcare capacity for families living in Kings Moat Garden Village and surrounding parts of Chester.
