Cheshire College and Macclesfield College Complete Legal Merger

Cheshire College – South & West and Macclesfield College have officially become one organisation after completing their legal merger, bringing together further education provision across much of Cheshire under a single college group.
The merger follows a period of collaboration between the two institutions and is intended to strengthen further education across the county by combining resources, expertise and investment while continuing to serve students at each existing campus.
Students will continue to study at their current college sites, with courses and day-to-day teaching expected to continue as normal while the newly merged organisation begins operating under a unified governance structure.
Together, the colleges provide a broad range of academic, technical and vocational qualifications, apprenticeships and adult education programmes, supporting thousands of students each year as well as employers across Cheshire and the surrounding region.
College leaders say the merger will create greater opportunities to invest in teaching, learning facilities and specialist training while strengthening links with local businesses and industry. They also believe the combined organisation will be better placed to respond to changing skills demands across the county.
The move reflects a wider trend within the further education sector, where colleges have increasingly chosen to merge in order to strengthen financial resilience, expand curriculum choices and improve long-term sustainability.
Cheshire College – South & West operates campuses in Crewe, Ellesmere Port and Chester, while Macclesfield College serves students from Macclesfield and the surrounding areas. Together, the colleges play an important role in providing education and skills training for communities across Cheshire.
The legal merger marks the completion of the formal process, with work continuing to integrate services and develop a shared strategy for the future while maintaining education and support for current students.
