Knutsford's streets, historic buildings and green spaces will become artists' studios later this month as the town hosts the return of the Paint Knutsford open-air painting competition.

The event, taking place on Sunday, 16 August, will see artists spread across the town to capture everything from well-known landmarks to hidden corners, creating original artwork inspired by Knutsford's architecture, character and atmosphere.

Paint Knutsford follows the long-standing tradition of *plein air* painting, where artists work outdoors rather than in a studio, using natural light and the surrounding landscape as inspiration. The competition is expected to attract both experienced painters and enthusiastic amateurs from across the region.

Throughout the day, visitors will be able to watch artists at work in locations across the town centre, offering a rare opportunity to see paintings develop from blank canvases to finished pieces in real time.

Organisers hope the event will celebrate Knutsford's distinctive heritage, with its historic streets, independent shops, parks and public spaces providing a wide variety of subjects for competitors.

As well as encouraging artistic talent, the competition is expected to bring additional visitors into the town, supporting local cafés, restaurants and independent businesses during the day.

Completed paintings will be judged after the competition, with prizes awarded across a number of categories. Many of the artworks are also expected to be displayed publicly, allowing residents and visitors to see different artistic interpretations of the town.

Paint Knutsford has become a popular fixture in the town's cultural calendar, combining art, community participation and local heritage while showcasing the places that make Knutsford one of Cheshire's best-known market towns.

The competition will take place across Knutsford on Sunday, 16 August, with artists painting throughout the day before the judging gets under way.
