The technology giant says future updates will focus on improving performance, reliability and the overall Windows 11 experience.

Microsoft has announced a series of new initiatives aimed at improving the performance and reliability of Windows 11 following feedback from users about speed, stability and the overall experience of the operating system.
The plans were outlined by Pavan Davuluri, Microsoft's Executive Vice President for Windows and Devices, who said the company is placing a renewed focus on improving the quality of Windows while making the operating system more responsive across a wider range of hardware.
One of Microsoft's main priorities is reducing the amount of memory Windows uses in the background. By lowering the operating system's baseline memory footprint, the company hopes to free up more resources for applications, helping PCs feel faster and more responsive during everyday use.
The work will focus particularly on devices with 8GB of RAM or more, which Microsoft says represent a large proportion of Windows 11 computers currently in use. Although the operating system officially requires a minimum of 4GB of memory, systems with 8GB or more are expected to benefit most from the planned optimisation work.
Alongside memory improvements, Microsoft says it is continuing to improve driver quality to reduce hardware compatibility issues and system crashes. The company is also simplifying the Windows Insider programme to make it easier for users to test new features before they are released to the public.
Further improvements are planned for the initial setup experience, with Microsoft aiming to make it easier for families and new users to configure devices. The company also intends to expand voice interaction capabilities across Windows and supported applications as part of its wider accessibility strategy.
The announcement follows increasing feedback from users about the growing demands placed on modern PCs, particularly as new artificial intelligence features have been introduced into Windows 11. Microsoft said it is continuing to balance the addition of new capabilities with improvements to overall performance and reliability.
While no timetable has been announced for when each improvement will be released, Microsoft said the work will be introduced through future Windows 11 updates as development continues.
