Nantwich Museum Wins Lottery Funding for New Salt Heritage Project

Nantwich Museum has secured funding from The National Lottery Heritage Fund for a major new project exploring the town's historic connection with salt production.
The initiative, titled "Nantwich Salt: the story behind the growth of the town", will examine how salt-making influenced the development of Nantwich and helped shape its economy, landscape and local identity.
Salt has played an important role in the area for centuries, with Nantwich historically known as one of Cheshire's principal salt towns. The industry contributed to the town's growth and prosperity and became closely linked with its wider commercial development.
The museum said the new project will improve the way this history is interpreted and presented to visitors, making the story more accessible and easier to understand for people of different ages and backgrounds.
Funding from The National Lottery Heritage Fund will support new research, interpretation and public engagement, helping the museum bring together historic material connected with Nantwich's salt-making past.
The project is also expected to create opportunities for local people to become involved through exhibitions, activities and learning programmes focused on the town's industrial and social history.
