Liverpool Chester Liverpool Bike Ride Raises More Than £93,000 for Cancer Research
Thousands of cyclists took part in five routes across the region, helping the revived event deliver its strongest fundraising total since returning under North West Cancer Research

Thousands of cyclists have helped raise more than £93,000 for North West Cancer Research after taking part in this year’s Liverpool Chester Liverpool Bike Ride.
The long-running event was held on Sunday, 5 July, with riders tackling five different routes between Liverpool, Wirral and Cheshire.
Organisers said the total surpassed last year’s fundraising figure and marked the strongest result since North West Cancer Research took over the event following its revival.
The Liverpool Chester Liverpool Bike Ride has been part of the region’s sporting calendar for more than 30 years and has raised hundreds of thousands of pounds for charities during that time.
It was cancelled in 2024 after the previous operator entered administration, before North West Cancer Research stepped in to bring it back the following year and secure its future.
This year’s programme ranged from a five-mile family ride through the Queensway Tunnel to a demanding 100-mile challenge through parts of North Cheshire.
Other options included a 25-mile Liverpool-to-Chester ride, a 50-mile Liverpool Chester Liverpool route and the 50-mile Chester Challenge, which started and finished at Upton Heath Primary School.
The ride gave participants the unusual opportunity to cycle through the Queensway Tunnel without normal traffic before routes continued through Liverpool, Wirral and Cheshire.
Among those taking part was Owen McGreevy, a PhD researcher at the University of Liverpool whose work is funded by North West Cancer Research.
He completed the 50-mile route alongside his mother and father and said the experience had particular meaning because his own family has been affected by cancer.
McGreevy said combining a family cycling challenge with fundraising for the charity supporting his research made the day especially important.
The event was sponsored by Home Bargains, Princes and Chester-based law firm Oliver & Co.
North West Cancer Research funds cancer research and education across the North West and North Wales, with money raised through events such as the LCL ride supporting projects focused on improving understanding, treatment and outcomes.
Chief executive Alastair Richards said the £93,000 total reflected the commitment of riders, volunteers, sponsors and supporters and showed how strongly the event had re-established itself since returning.
He said the money would help fund research and education projects across the region.
The Liverpool Chester Liverpool Bike Ride is now in its 32nd edition and continues to attract cyclists of different ages and abilities across its range of routes.
Organisers have already indicated that the event will return again next year.
