Knutsford community orchard to host free summer barbecue
Crosstown Community Orchard is preparing for its annual summer barbecue on August 15, with live music, food, cider and lawn games planned for the free community event.

Crosstown Community Orchard in Knutsford will welcome residents for its annual summer barbecue on August 15, with live music, food and games planned for the afternoon.
The free community event will take place at the orchard on Mobberley Road from 1pm, with local businesses helping to provide food and drink.
Visitors can also expect cider, live music and lawn games as part of the summer gathering.
Admission is free, although donations towards the community orchard will be welcomed.
Around 80 people attended last year’s barbecue, and organisers are hoping local families and residents will once again make use of the green space.
Crosstown Community Orchard was established as Knutsford’s first community orchard and is managed by a charity overseen by a group of trustees.
The site contains 38 fruit trees, with varieties including apples, pears, cherries, plums, greengages and quinces.
Its produce extends beyond the main orchard. Fruit beds contain strawberries, blueberries, currants, gooseberries, raspberries and jostaberries, alongside rhubarb.
Elderberry, hazelnut and crab apple are among the wild harvest shrubs growing at the site.
The orchard provides a community green space as well as an opportunity to grow a wide range of fruit locally, with the annual barbecue bringing residents together during the summer.
The event starts at 1pm on August 15 and is free to attend, with donations welcome.
