Opening date confirmed for new Northwich Market at Barons Quay
Northwich’s new market will officially open at Barons Quay on September 18, bringing traders, food and drink, indoor and outdoor seating and new facilities to the town centre.

Northwich’s new market will officially open at Barons Quay on September 18, Cheshire West and Chester Council has confirmed.
The doors will open at 9am, marking the start of a new chapter for the town’s market following preparations for its move to the new location.
Northwich Mayor Cllr Robert Cernik and Deputy Mayor Cllr Rachel Waterman are due to cut the ribbon at the official opening.
The new market has been designed to bring together a wider selection of stalls and facilities, with places for visitors to eat and drink both inside and outdoors.
It will also include public toilets and free WiFi.
A familiar part of Northwich’s market history will make the move to the new building.
The 60-year-old “Indoor Market” sign from the previous market has been restored and will be displayed prominently at the new site.
Local children have also contributed to the interior.
Primary school pupils have created 50 hanging fish and crayfish mobiles inspired by the River Weaver, which will be displayed above the market’s seating area.
Cllr Nathan Pardoe, Cheshire West and Chester Council’s cabinet member for inclusive economy, regeneration and digital transformation, said the authority was looking forward to welcoming people into the new market.
He said it would provide a range of food, drink, goods and services while also creating a place where people could meet and spend time in the town centre.
The opening forms part of wider regeneration work taking place in Northwich.
Cheshire West and Chester Council has been working with ION Developments on plans for the Weaver Square area, with proposals intended to create a new town-centre neighbourhood.
The wider scheme includes plans for around 200 homes, including affordable housing, alongside improvements to public spaces.
A new bus hub has also been proposed as part of the regeneration plans.
The market itself is intended to provide a more modern environment for traders and customers while retaining links with Northwich’s long history as a market town.
Its location at Barons Quay also places it alongside existing shops, restaurants, leisure facilities and the town’s waterfront.
The official opening takes place at 9am on September 18.
