Plans Submitted to Replace Care Home with Larger 54-Bed Facility
A care home has been located on the site since 1975, with plans now in place for a modern replacement.

Plans have been submitted to Cheshire West and Chester Council to demolish the existing 39-bed Crossways Care Home on Station Road in Lostock Gralam and replace it with a larger, three-storey facility featuring 54 beds. The new care home aims to provide specialist dementia accommodation and improved facilities.
The application, submitted by Croftwood Care Ltd, part of the Minster Care Group, proposes to double the number of car parking spaces from seven to 14. The gross internal floor space of the new building would increase significantly from 1,381 square metres to 2,733 square metres.
If the plans are approved, the number of full-time jobs is expected to rise from 20 to 24, with part-time roles also increasing from 20 to 24. The existing care home has been on the site since 1975, and previous applications have included extensions to the building.
The application notes that the current structure is ‘fundamentally constrained’ by its layout, which limits its ability to meet modern elderly and dementia care standards. Many bedrooms lack en-suites, and communal spaces are fragmented, resulting in inconvenient access for residents.
The proposed new building would primarily be two-storey, with one section rising to three-storeys to provide additional communal space, an outdoor terrace, and a hair salon. The ground floor would house a specialist dementia care wing, featuring 22 en-suite bedrooms arranged around a secure courtyard garden. This design aims to create an intuitive circulation route that enhances safety and independence for residents living with dementia.
