New Crewe school plans recommended for approval despite concerns
Councillors meet today to decide on the application

Plans for a new primary school on the outskirts of Crewe were recommended for approval, despite highway concerns raised by a local councillor and a parish council.
The application is due to be considered by Cheshire East’s southern planning committee on Wednesday. It relates to the appearance, landscaping, layout, access and scale of the proposed school.
The scheme was called in by councillor Alison Heler over highway concerns, particularly the safety of children and adults crossing David Whitby Way. In her call-in, she said the cumulative effect of the development in the area would affect the ability of the highway system to cope.
Weston and Crewe Green Parish Council said it supported the principle of the school but wanted assurances on highways issues. Its concerns included the capacity of David Whitby Way and the central roundabout, pedestrian safety, and whether two proposed toucan crossings would be enough.
Planning officers said the development was acceptable in design and landscape terms. Their report also said the school traffic impact had been assessed and considered acceptable by the highway officer, who raised no objections subject to parking restrictions on the access road.
