The UK government is reviewing allegations about My Surrogacy Journey after complaints from surrogates in Mexico over unpaid medical costs, including a case involving a hysterectomy. The Department of Health and Social Care is considering whether the British-based provider should remain listed on gov.uk as one of the domestic surrogacy agencies available to intended parents.
According to the report, emails from the company’s chief executive suggested multiple surrogate women in Mexico had insurance claims rejected. The report also said around 300 couples had been moved to a new insurance provider because of concerns that claims might be refused.
Lawyers for My Surrogacy Journey said the company does not comment on individual cases, but said existing insurance policies were in place and claims were still being accepted and processed. They also said they understood only a small number of claims had been rejected and that the company was supporting those affected in trying to resolve them.
