University of Chester announces packed Welcome Week programme for new students
The University of Chester will host Welcome Week 2026 from September 28 to October 2, featuring safety advice, social events, sports activities, and a jobs fair.

The University of Chester is set to welcome new students with a comprehensive programme of events designed to help them settle into university life. Welcome Week will officially take place from Monday, September 28, to Friday, October 2, 2026, with many students expected to arrive on Sunday, September 27.
Dr Helen Galbraith, senior pro vice-chancellor and chief operating officer at the University of Chester, expressed enthusiasm for the event, stating, "We are delighted to welcome new and returning students to the University of Chester. Welcome Week is an important opportunity for students to build friendships, discover the support available to them, and develop a sense of belonging within our University community."
The university has collaborated with Chester Students’ Union, Cheshire Police, employers, and community organisations to ensure a welcoming and safe environment for students as they begin the academic year. Dr Galbraith also acknowledged the efforts of university staff in creating a positive and inclusive experience for students from their first day.
A range of activities will be available throughout Welcome Week, including a return of the Cheshire Police Safety Bus to the Exton Park campus. Officers will provide safety advice and explain the bus's role, which is a specially adapted vehicle used in the city centre at night. A visible police presence will be maintained around the campus and the Garden Quarter to reassure students and residents.
Chester Students’ Union has organised various events, such as a move-in market, movie nights, speed friending sessions, and city tours. Similar activities will also be available for students at the university’s Warrington, Birkenhead, and other Chester locations.
Additionally, the university will host sports taster sessions, campus tours, and social events, including quizzes, gardening, and crafting. A part-time jobs fair is scheduled for Friday, October 2, allowing students to meet employers, explore job opportunities, and receive application advice in a relaxed atmosphere.
Following Welcome Week, further events will focus on wellbeing, life skills, and raising awareness of university services, including chaplaincy, sport, and the Money Hub.
