Rolls-Royce secures multi-million-pound engine contract
Rolls-Royce has finalised a deal to supply 18 engines for Airbus long-haul jets for Philippine Airlines, with maintenance included.

Rolls-Royce has confirmed a significant contract to supply 18 engines for nine new Airbus A350-1000 aircraft for Philippine Airlines. The deal, valued at hundreds of millions of pounds, includes a maintenance package, ensuring that Rolls-Royce will service and monitor the engines throughout their operational life.
The agreement was initially announced as a memorandum of understanding during the Farnborough International Airshow in July. Rob Watson, president of civil airspace at Rolls-Royce, expressed pride in the ongoing relationship with Philippine Airlines.
The UK government has welcomed the deal, noting that it will create quality jobs at Rolls-Royce's Derby facility. Minister for Trade Anas Sarwar highlighted the importance of British engineering and innovation, stating that the contract positions UK expertise at the forefront of the aviation industry.
The engines involved in this contract are the Trent XWB-97, which can operate on a 50% sustainable aviation fuel blend, with future plans for 100% sustainable aviation fuel usage. This order follows a previous contract from Philippine Airlines for nine Trent XWB-97-powered Airbus A350-1000 aircraft in 2023.
