A family with three young children says they have been left living in a collapsing home while their subsidence claim drags on with LV= General Insurance.

They lodged the claim in 2023 over damage to an extension and conservatory. The Guardian report says LV= has spent years delaying the case and proposing patching work that the family says is inadequate, rather than authorising repairs recommended by independent experts.

Three years on, the report says cracking inside the property has become so severe that a radiator has sheared away. LV= is also said to have acknowledged that the cracks have worsened and that a full rebuild is now required.

The insurer told the newspaper it takes the claim seriously and understands the frustration over how long it has taken. It said subsidence claims can be protracted because the cause of movement must be dealt with before permanent repairs can begin, and in this case it pointed to tree removal as the key issue.

LV= also said it had obtained a quote for underpinning last February, although the work was not carried out, and that repairs will start once designs and council processes are complete.
