A Nantwich Running Club member was injured after tripping on a raised grid in the Mount Drive area, prompting the club to report the hazard and Cheshire East Council to carry out a repair.

The Nantwich News report said the accident happened during a club training run. The male runner fell on his side after tripping, and later went to hospital with a fractured arm, a shoulder injury, a scuffed elbow and cuts and grazes to his wrist.

The club, which has more than 400 members, said its health and safety officer Fiona Roche inspected the scene and found a hole near the grid that appears to have caused the fall. The incident was reported on the UK Athletics incident reporting page.

According to the report, images supplied by Fiona Roche helped England Athletics’ Club Support Team ask Cheshire East Council to act. The council then carried out the repair promptly.

Roche said it was important to report the issue so it could be fixed and prevent further slips, trips and falls on the pathway. She also said the support of England Athletics helped get the matter addressed quickly.

The club’s advice was to report hazards to the relevant authorities, share information with other clubs and the wider community, make members aware of issues, change routes until repairs are completed and review risk assessments.
