The former employees were investigated for sharing data with an outside AI evaluation group.

OpenAI has fired three workers after an internal investigation found they had mishandled sensitive information, according to the BBC report.

The company said the people involved breached its policies on access to and handling of confidential data. OpenAI told the BBC that the investigation confirmed the employees had “mishandled sensitive information outside established company procedures”.

The BBC said the former employees were not dismissed for raising safety concerns. Instead, they were investigated over the sharing of data with an outside AI evaluation group.

OpenAI did not name the workers in its statement. The BBC report said at least two of them had been involved in safety research at the company.

The report does not give a specific location, venue, council area or other local angle, and it does not identify the external group that received the information.

OpenAI said it had “parted ways” with the three individuals over violations of company policy on accessing and handling sensitive company information.
