Plans to transform Marshalls House on Church Hill in Knutsford into a new food and drinks hall have been approved, with the venue expected to open next spring.

The project will be called School Yard Knutsford. It will bring independent food and drink traders into the former Victorian school building, with a courtyard-style layout in the old playground.

According to the source report, Marshalls House is a Grade II listed building that opened as Egerton School in 1893. The plans have been presented as a sensitive restoration of the building, with the business behind the scheme saying it wants to preserve the architecture while giving it a new use.

A design and access statement submitted by DV8 Designs on behalf of One London Road Ltd says the client bought the building in 2019 and intends to create a hybrid food hall with multiple independent traders. The plans also include covered exterior seating, ground-floor seating, a licensed bar, first-floor function rooms and community meeting spaces.

The statement says the development is intended to offer hospitality and food experiences not currently available in Knutsford, and that it will include workshops and garden events.

The venue is expected to open from 9am to 11pm Sunday to Thursday, and from 9am to midnight on Fridays and Saturdays.
