An Ellesmere Port artist’s travel poster artwork is now on permanent display at Ellesmere Port Hospital.

The pieces are by Nicky Thompson, whose work has been installed in the hospital corridors as part of a permanent display. The artwork is drawn from his The Art of Travel exhibition, which uses the style of 1930s travel posters and celebrates places including Chester city centre, Chester Zoo and destinations across the North West.

Thompson said the display felt like a homecoming for him. He said he had come to the hospital for physio as a child after breaking his leg, and added that his mother has also spent time there. He said it was lovely to see his work lining the corridors.

The exhibition has already been shown at venues including the National Waterways Museum in Ellesmere Port and Nuneaton Museum & Art Gallery. It features more than a decade of Thompson’s work.

Justin Madders, the Ellesmere Port and Bromborough MP, welcomed the display. The report also says he visited the hospital to see the artwork.

Jonathan Develing, director of strategy and partnerships at the Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, said the display supports the trust’s focus on patient and family experience. He said the trust was delighted to have Nicky Thompson’s artwork on display at Ellesmere Port Hospital.

The artwork is now in place permanently at the hospital.
