A new food and drinks hall named School Yard Knutsford is scheduled to open in spring next year after plans to transform the Grade II listed Marshalls House were approved by Cheshire East Council. Located on Church Hill, Marshalls House was originally opened as Egerton School in 1893 and later functioned as an auction house until 2000.
The redevelopment will feature independent food and drink traders operating around a courtyard in the former playground. Canopy structures will provide cover for outdoor seating. The project aims to preserve the architectural integrity of Marshalls House while giving it a renewed purpose as a modern hospitality venue.
A design and access statement submitted by DV8 Designs on behalf of One London Road Ltd outlines plans for a hybrid style food hall that includes multiple independent traders, exterior covered seating areas, interior ground floor seating, a licensed bar, first floor function rooms, and community meeting spaces. The development is expected to enhance the cultural and hospitality offerings in Knutsford, attracting visitors and providing a gathering space for the community.
Councillor Bryan Hartley expressed optimism about the project, stating, "This is a really positive development for Knutsford. It is the next step in the evolution of retail and hospitality and brings a new concept to the town." The venue is anticipated to operate from 9am to 11pm Sunday to Thursday and from 9am to midnight on Friday and Saturday.
The planning application, referenced as 21/5803M, was approved subject to conditions, allowing for flexible use of the space, including weddings, events, and conferencing, alongside the primary focus on food and drink.
