A Warrington personal trainer had his holiday in Zante ruined after collapsing in his hotel room and suffering a serious head injury.
Dan Leatham, 45, had travelled to the Greek island with his father for a £4,000, 14-night all-inclusive break.
Worried about becoming inactive and gaining weight while away, he used the gym at their four-star hotel. After completing a 45-minute upper-body workout, he returned to his room before collapsing.
Mr Leatham cracked his head open when he hit the ground. He was taken to hospital, where his head was stitched.
A CT scan also found a blood clot in his head. Doctors believed it may have been caused by an earlier incident in which he struck his head on a racked weight.
The combination of overtraining in hot conditions and the blood clot is believed to have contributed to his collapse.
Mr Leatham spent four nights in hospital, missing the food and drink included in the holiday package.
After being discharged, he was told to avoid physical exertion and excessive eating and drinking for the remainder of the trip, or risk being deemed unfit to fly home.
“It ruined my holiday a bit,” Mr Leatham said.
“I wanted to keep my training regime while I was away otherwise I would get lazy and put a load of weight on.”
He added: “I cracked my head open and there was blood everywhere, it was a bit of a blood bath.”
