Meghan Markle’s response to allegations concerning her estranged father and warnings over a possible “Truss-style” Budget lead Saturday’s newspaper front pages.

The Daily Telegraph reports that the Duchess of Sussex was warned about allegations involving Thomas Markle eight years ago. Meghan said on Friday that she received a letter in 2018 containing “troubling and disturbing allegations” about her father.

The reports follow claims that images of child sexual abuse were allegedly found at Mr Markle’s former home in the Philippines. He denies possessing any such images.

The Daily Mail says the Metropolitan Police is seeking the letter sent to Meghan. The paper reported that sources stressed the force had never investigated Mr Markle.

The Daily Star says Meghan heard the allegations soon after her wedding to Prince Harry in May 2018. The Daily Express reported that her half-brother, Thomas Markle Jr, had alerted police.

Meghan said she had kept her distance from her father and had not allowed him contact with her children to protect them. She said she had been assured that the allegations were being investigated.

The other leading story concerns the upcoming Autumn Budget. The Times carries a warning from Andy Haldane, the former chief economist at the Bank of England, to Prime Minister Andy Burnham against risking a repeat of the financial turmoil that followed Liz Truss’s 2022 mini-Budget.

Mr Haldane said unfunded spending measures could “crater” the economy and urged the Prime Minister to reduce public spending. The Budget is due to be delivered on Wednesday.
