Cheshire East Council has increased the annual cost of its garden waste collection service for 2027 from £69 to £74.

The £5 rise represents an increase of 7.25%, with the new charge applying to residents who subscribe to the council’s Garden Waste Recycling Scheme.

Subscriptions for 2027 opened on 28 October 2026. The council said residents who are already registered can renew, while new customers can sign up for collections from January.

Almost 100,000 residents subscribed to the service during 2026. The scheme provides fortnightly collections for items including grass cuttings, leaves and hedge trimmings, which are composted after collection.

Cheshire East Council is also introducing automatic renewal. Subscriptions will renew for the following year unless residents choose to opt out through the council’s online portal.

A 25 per cent reduction is available to residents receiving qualifying benefits.

The council has apologised to residents over disruption to garden waste collections, while confirming the higher price for next year’s service.

Residents who sign up will receive a welcome pack containing a subscription sticker with their address and unique subscription number. The council advises customers to attach the new pink sticker to the back of their garden bin, on the handle side.

Residents unable to subscribe online can contact Cheshire East Council on 0300 123 5011.
