A single created by University of Chester music students and staff to promote positive mental health has reached the UK charts and secured a place on the BBC Radio Wales Welsh A-List.
Find Your Light was produced in collaboration with Work in Progress Rhyl CIC, an inclusive community performing arts group. The song was released on 10 October to coincide with World Mental Health Day.
The track reached number 26 on the iTunes UK Pop chart and number 54 on the iTunes UK main chart following its release.
A remix by CAMS, a former University of Chester student, was selected for the BBC Radio Wales Welsh A-List.
Jim Mason, senior lecturer and programme leader for music production at the University of Chester, said the team was “delighted” the remix had been added to the playlist.
The project forms part of research into how collaborative songwriting, music production and film-making can affect identity, empowerment and community belonging.
University students worked with researchers and members of Work in Progress to create the original song, remixes and accompanying video using professional recording and production facilities.
Work in Progress supports adults through inclusive performing arts, with mental health and wellbeing at the centre of its work.
Profits from the single will go to Work in Progress and Café71, a community space in Chester supporting people in crisis. The song, remixes and video are available through major music streaming and download platforms.
