Alsager residents, businesses and community groups were invited to an environmental event at Alsager Civic on Saturday 31 October.
The event, organised jointly by Alsager Town Council and the Alsager ELF (Ethical Local Fair Trade) Group, was scheduled to run from 9.30am until noon.
Organisers said the event would feature short presentations from people and organisations working in carbon reduction, sustainability and reducing single-use plastics.
Visitors could also meet representatives from local businesses, environmental groups and community organisations.
The event followed Councillor June Buckley’s completion of the Speak Carbon Accreditation programme during the summer. The accreditation recognises a commitment to carbon awareness and environmental responsibility and is displayed on the town council’s website.
As part of the programme, Cllr Buckley completed two pledges. The first involved delivering a presentation to the public and councillors about carbon awareness and wider environmental issues.
Her second pledge was to organise a larger community event bringing together local stakeholders to promote environmental awareness and encourage practical action.
Cllr Buckley said the Saturday event was intended to help residents share ideas, learn from one another and find simple ways to reduce their carbon footprint.
The event was open to everyone and marked the first large-scale environmental awareness event jointly organised by the Alsager ELF Group and Alsager Town Council.
