A historic former school house in Knutsford is set to become a new food hall after plans to transform the Grade II-listed building were approved.
Marshall House, on Church Hill opposite St John’s Church, has stood empty for several years. The red-brick building first opened in 1893 as Egerton Boys and Girls School.
It later became an auction house, which closed in 2019. The building was subsequently bought by a group of local hospitality entrepreneurs, who want to restore it and bring it back into use.
The new venue will be called The School Yard. Plans include space for up to six food vendors and an independent bar, with the site intended for coffee, casual dining, social gatherings and events.
The owners also want the venue to support independent food and drink businesses by giving start-ups space to launch and grow in a managed environment.
The project is being led by former Mere hotel boss Mark Boler, Morson Group executive chairman Ged Mason and hospitality operator Ged Lynch.
The owners said their aim was to create a food and drinks hall reflecting Knutsford’s independent character, with a focus on community, quality and business incubation.
The School Yard is hoped to open in spring 2027.
