Virgin Media email users face closure of their free accounts unless they pay to keep them, according to MoneySavingExpert.

The affected email addresses include @virginmedia.com, @ntlworld.com, @blueyonder.co.uk and @virgin.net.

Virgin Media stopped offering free email accounts to new customers in 2022. The company is now withdrawing the service entirely and moving existing accounts to the paid-for email provider Junara.

Customers with an affected address will receive an email giving them 45 days to decide whether to move to Junara. Anyone who does not act within that period will have their email access suspended.

A further 120-day recovery period will then apply. During that time, the account and its data can be recovered if necessary by contacting Virgin Media customer services.

After 165 days in total, accounts that have not been moved to Junara will be permanently closed and their associated data deleted.

Current Virgin Media broadband, landline or TV customers will be offered 12 months of access for 99p. Customers who have previously told Virgin Media they need additional support, such as because of a disability, will be offered 18 months for 99p.

After the introductory period, reported prices range from £59 to £99 a year for each mailbox. Former Virgin Media customers and people who are no longer customers will not receive the trial offer and will need to pay the higher annual fee to retain their account.

Users who decide not to pay should create a new email address with an independent provider and update any accounts, services or contacts that use their Virgin Media address before access ends.
